Music Director / Conductor Emeritus
Mr. Burton is currently Music Director of the York Symphony Orchestra and the Mississauga Youth Orchestra. He was Music Director of the Nova Scotia Youth Orchestra from 1988-2005, where he built an orchestral training program recognized nationally as one of the finest youth orchestra experiences available. He has held conducting positions at Acadia University, McMaster University, Brandon University and at the University of Toronto. As a trombonist Mr. Burton has performed with many orchestras, including 18 years in Symphony Nova Scotia. He has also performed with the Toronto Symphony, the Kitchener-Waterloo Symphony, the National Youth Orchestra of Canada, and the Chicago Civic Orchestra. Mr. Burton conducts and performs with the Northumberland Brass which is heard regularly on the CBC radio network. Gregory Burton holds degrees from Northwestern University, Acadia University, and a doctorate in instrumental conducting from Arizona State University. He has served as adjudicator and clinician throughout Atlantic Canada, Ontario, and the U.S.
