John Barnum is well known to those familiar with live classical music in Mississauga.He has been Music Director of The Mississauga Symphony for twenty years. He is the founding conductor of Sinfonia Mississauga and the Mississauga Philharmonic. He is also the Music Director of the Georgian Bay Symphony and Conductor of the Huronia Symphony. His previous youth orchestra experience includes Music Director and Conductor of the Kitchener-Waterloo Symphony Youth Orchestra and the Edmonton Youth Orchestra.
John has conducted most of Canada's finest classical ensembles but has particularly enjoyed fostering strong home-based development of classical music groups. Recognition of such service came in 1984 when he was named Mississauga Musician of the Year and in 1992 when he was awarded a Governor General's "Canada 125" medal.
