Woodwind coach and "Wind Ensemble" conductor
A native of Saint John, New Brunswick, Richard Thomson has been an active freelance performer in the Toronto area for 30 years. He has performed with the Canadian Opera Company, The National Ballet of Canada, Toronto Operetta Theatre, Canadian Stage Company, Toronto Symphony, Hamilton Philharmonic and Toronto's Talisker Players, and has toured with the Charlottetown Festival Theatre Company, Canada's Royal Winnipeg Ballet, and the Broadway productions of The Secret Garden and Beauty and the Beast.
Mr. Thomson has recorded with Glenn Gould, Henry Mancini and Placido Domingo, and played over 50 musicals for Mirvish, Livent, the Shaw and Stratford Festivals . He is a founding member of the King's Square Saxophone Quartet, a member of Toronto's Esprit Orchestra, and is on the clarinet faculty of the University of Toronto.
His teaching credits include Mount Allison University summer music camp, New Brunswick summer music camp, New England Music Camp and The Royal Conservatory of Music, as well as adjudicating and conducting clinics and master classes in schools in the Mississauga and the greater Toronto area. In addition, he has a special interest in how the brain processes both language and music.
