Acceptance depends on the instrument played and the needs of the MYO in any given year. The MYO is a large organization and currently has two different groups which can accommodate string players – at almost any level of skill and experience. Acceptance of brass, woodwind and percussion musicians depends on available positions and the playing level of the candidates. It is important to understand that the musical structure of orchestras usually requires only 3-4 of each instrument and auditions for these positions (especially flute and clarinet positions) can be very competitive.
