Acceptance is by audition and the strength of our reputation attracts players from Mississauga, the GTA and beyond.
Auditions are held in May and June with a few “catch-up” auditions at the beginning of September. Individual auditions may be arranged during the season at the discretion of the music director. |

What are the audition requirements?
What are the chances of being accepted?
Acceptance depends on the instrument played and the needs of the MYO in any given year. The MYO is a large organization and currently has two different groups which can accommodate string players – at almost any level of skill and experience. Acceptance of brass, woodwind and percussion musicians depends on available positions and the playing level of the candidates. It is important to understand that the musical structure of orchestras usually requires only 3-4 of each instrument and auditions for these positions (especially flute and clarinet positions) can be very competitive. |
What performance opportunities exist for MYO players?
The MYO performs 3-4 major concerts each season. In addition, the musicians perform at a variety of venues in the community.
The MYO Symphony regularly participates in youth orchestra festivals as well as exchanges with other youth orchestras. |

What time commitment does the MYO expect from its players?
